World Cup Rematch Coming Up

DukesAustralia has made it through to the second round of the 2007 AFC Asian Cup. We will be playing against Japan who we beat 3-1 in the World Cup.

Australia's form hasn't been very good in the tournament so far, drawing 1-1 with Oman and loosing 3-1 to Iraq. It did improve against Thailand who we beat 4-0, however we will have to be playing our best to beat Japan again.

Viduka has scored 3 goals so far in the tournament, probably his best showing for the national team yet. Cahill also strengthened his reputation as a "super-sub", coming off the bench to equalise against Oman in the 92nd minute.

Carle signs with Turkish club

GençlerbirliğiNick Carle did indeed sign a contract with a Turkish club, however it was not Fenerbahçe as was originally rumored.

Carle has signed with Gençlerbirliği who finished 6th last season. Not quite as good as Fenerbahçe however they have finished consistently in the top half of the table and played in the UEFA Cup.

Gençlerbirliği should give Carle a better chance of getting game time.

Australian media has been reporting that the transfer fee was about $650,000 but the club website seems to say that it was 1 million euros ($1,600,000).

Last FM

Something I found recently was a site called last.fm. It keeps track of all the music you listen to and recommends you other artists that you might like. I've already found a couple of bands that are really good.

If you take a look at my last.fm profile you can see the music I'm currently playing, recently played and charts of my top played artists and songs. Pretty cool huh?

You can see my "Weekly Top Tracks" chart on the left sidebar.

Nick Carle

Nick Carle has reportedly transferred from the Newcastle Jets over to Fenerbahçe, one of the top Turkish clubs. It seems the transfer fee was about $600,000 so the Jets should have a bit of extra cash to splash. Fenerbahçe regularly play in the UEFA Champions League, and have recently signed Brazilian star player Roberto Carlos.

Nick Carle impressed playing for Australia against Uruguay and was seen talking to Uruguayan player Diego Lugano who plays for Fenerbahçe after the match. Perhaps he recommended Carle to his club.

It sounds like a great move for Carle, although he will be missed in Newcastle. Lets hope he eventually gets a place in the starting eleven.

The Jets have signed at least three South American players for the 2007/2008 season which should keep us entertained in Nick Carles absence. They are Argentinians Livio Preito a attacking midfielder and striker Jorge Drovandi and Flavio Barros a tall Brazilian striker who seems to know how to use his head to score goals.

Bring on A-League V3!

What a weekend

Pasha BulkerWell last weekend was a bit of a disaster weekend..! The weather was absolutely horrible. Newcastle got hit by cyclone like wind and heaps of heavy rain. A lot of the area was flooded really bad.

The ship you can see in the picture on the right is one of the coal ships that wait off Newcastle harbour which broke is anchor and ended up on Nobby's Beach, one of the main beaches. Lets hope it doesnt go spilling fuel and oil all over our great beaches.

I drove out to the Rathmines Bible School on Friday night for a Sydney CYC Study Weekend and had to take detours to avoid the floodwaters and mini land slides. When I got there all the power and water was out :(

Study Weekend ended up getting moved to Sydney and and it all turned out pretty good considering the circumstances. Ironically the topic for the weekend was Noah lol.

Did my first uni exam for the semester today.. Think it went OK (I hope). Got three more to go now, damit!

Its actually been quite an interesting semester. Haven't had to do any maths or physics, yay!

Jets go through!

Went to the Newcastle Jets vs Sydney FC soccer game last night. It was crazy, very hot tempers on the field and 25,000 people in the crowd.

The Jets absolutely dominated Sydney the whole game and ended up getting a 2-0 win. We would have got more but we missed heaps of good opportunities and the ref missed a few clear penalties.

Newcastle is now through to the preliminary final and only one game away from the A-League Grand Final!

There's some more pics in the gallery.

Back from holidays

Well I'm back from all my holidays now... I've been away for ages!

After Fiji I went down to Durras near Batemans Bay on the south coast of NSW with my family and the Dennes family. Just did some swimming, wakeboarding and relaxing for the week.

On the way back up north Mum & Dad dropped me at the airport in Sydney and I flew to Perth with my brother Matt for the Perth Christadelphian Youth Conference. The conference was really excellent and I enjoyed my self a lot more than the last conference I went to. Thanks and compliments to the committee and hosts.

After Perth I was up at Manning Point near Taree. Luke Ax came up with us and we just did stuff like wakeboarding (again) and fishing. Then I stayed at Lukes place with the boys for a night and now I'm finally at home (it sucks).

So yeah.. Hopefully I can make this website more interesting.. I'll add some more pics soon.

Still like a month till uni starts, YES!

Bula

Bula (Hello) from Fiji.

I arrived in Fiji about 3 days ago have been having a great time. Beebs, Jake Curtis, Laura Egginton and me went out to Bounty Island for 2 nights which turned out to be a really nice place. We did a day trip to Treasure Island for about $10 which was well worth it.

We were sposed to go down to Suva for some end of year studies with the Christadelphians but they were cancelled because the speaker decided not to come because of the coup. So yeah right now we are staying at Nomads Skylodge in Nadi.

There are some pics here.

My new website

As you can see I have registered the jaredwiltshire.com domain name. I don't quite know why I set up this site.

I'll probably just be using it to post photographs, and maybe a bit of a travel blog during these holidays. Might chuck a resume up here too.

So yeah don't expect to much (not that anyone would be real interested anyway Grin).

For those who want to know, the site is using the Drupal 5.0 content management platform, with the default Garland theme and Mediterrano colour scheme. Hosting is with Jumba.
